![]() ![]() Simpson makes clear that the resistance's goal can no longer be cultural resurgence as a mechanism for inclusion in a multicultural mosaic. Indigenous resistance is a radical rejection of contemporary colonialism focused around refusing the dispossession of indigenous bodies and land. In As We Have Always Done, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson locates indigenous political resurgence as a practice rooted in uniquely indigenous theorizing, writing, organizing, and thinking. "Across North America, indigenous acts of resistance have in recent years opposed the removal of federal protections for forests and waterways in indigenous lands, halted the expansion of tar sands extraction and the pipeline construction at Standing Rock, and demanded justice for murdered and missing indigenous women. ![]() Maybe a good book for self-help junkies or people unfamiliar with any kind of buddhist teachings at all. What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment? Poor phrasing, over-enunciation, and bad acting let the book down immensely. How did the narrator detract from the book? It could be that the narration took something away from the enjoyment of the book. Get a professional actor/narrator to read it. ![]() What could Dan Millman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you? The dialogue read like a children's story, very unconvincing. Much too esoteric throughout, with the protagonist being taken on mystical journeys of the mind to learn "valuable" lessons. The plot was similar to the equally bad "The Buddha, Jeff, and Me" disillusioned young man meets annoying "zen master", who trains him in the way of the peaceful warrior and ultimately takes 8 years to impart a ridiculously simple message. I found the book was very badly written, with weak dialogue, poorly structured plot, and very little in the "changing lives" department. I bought this title on the strength of all the glowing reviews both on Amazon and Audible, so I was disappointed to find it didn't live up to those expectations at all. ![]() What would have made Way of the Peaceful Warrior better? ![]() ![]() ![]() Discover the secrets of Belgian beer, chocolate, and flawless diamond industry. I've heard worse but will avoid anything she's on in the future. Her performance was completely flat as it she was just reading the book not performing it. While the narrator isn't awful she did contribute to the boring. The author continously tries to justify her lying, but with what the risks are they don't even come close to justification. She's just so fucking dumb! I kept thinking she'd tell him and the story would improve, it didn't happen. Even when he finds out she STILL LIES!!! She just makes up more dumb ass lies when telling him could erase so many issues and alert him to stay safe against an attack. The heroines a cowardly fucking idiot!
